| "The Crime of Being Me" | |
| Vocals: Jimmy Swan Catman says: "I once had a very close relationship with my brother. I considered him to be like a best friend. However, for almost 10 years, my brother effectively declared me dead, only condescending to speak with me when compelled to do so. He was angry at me for a variety of reasons, primarily with respect to money issues and the collapse of his marriage. Although I went about my life, same as usual, during that period, it was a very frustrating, depressing time because, no matter what I did in order to heal the rift, it seemed like nothing was good enough. He treated me like "a corpse walking amongst my fellow man" and, at times, I just felt like screaming. So when Jimmy Swan came into the studio to sing the song, I pulled him aside and said, "Jimmy, I don't have anything approaching your powerful voice and I could never do it myself, but there's an instrumental section here and I don't want you to sing any words, I just want you to scream, because that's the way I've felt for years insofar as my inability to heal the rift between me and my brother." And Jimmy got the vibe and screams the anguish in a soulful, tortured manner unlike anything I've ever heard before." | |
