Skincell are not your average band of alcoholic, tattooed rock stars. Their singer doesn't have a drug addiction, they don't stoop to wearing masks, make-up or offer any other shock rock tactics. What they do offer is their unique brand of honest music.
The Prince George based group is composed of Ross O'Byrne, Brad Foster, Trevor Forrest and Tim Ikonen. The chief songwriter in the band is Ross O'Byrne, who juggles a number of tasks, including those of writing, recording and producing. The Skincell sound is a heavy blend of crunchy guitars, pounding drums and vocal harmonies.
Their new self-titled cd clearly shows the progression of a continuously
evolving band. The recording captures a moody atmosphere and showcases their ability to combine aspects of metal with a healthy sense of depth and melody. The end result is an album that is filled with well written songs, catchy guitar riffs and imaginative lyrics.
For now Skincell seem to be content doing their own thing, making the music they want and sharing it with the people who want to hear it. Their new release is a sample of more great music to come.
